Catholic Abuse Scandal: Was Munich's Vicar General Forced to Serve as Ratzinger's Scapegoat? - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International
cYpGruber's friends say that the old man was only familiar with parts of the statement, that he was apparently being used as a scapegoat and that he was also under additional emotional pressure. To everyone's surprise, Gruber wrote an open letter in which he qualified the archdiocese's statement, writing that he did not sign any documents over which he had no influence. He also noted that he was "very upset" about the "manner in which the incidents were portrayed" by the archdiocese. "And the phrase 'acted on his own authority' also wasn't discussed with me," he wrote.
"Yawn , am I alive yet ?"
What is your explanation of Gruber's recantation now that your ridiculous speculation that he might have been trying to cover his back legally has been blown out of the water?
Is he simply a liar?
If so, how come he became a liar so recently?
Tell us how you'd hang him out to try if you were responsible for covering up the pope's past mistakes! Go on!

Can't find any open letter from Gruber anywhere. It's possible it might be a mistranslation.
There was a private letter that seems to have been made available to Der Spiegel. None of the relevant passages are quoted directly in either English or German.
I think you may be right for the moment and that this is not quite yet the final blow (after all, Fr. Gruber can -- and probably will -- be hung out to dry) but it is very much more than tittle tattle, as you know.
It is a significant hit and probably provides a rather precise marker for further, more explosive hits.

the Roman catholic church is an apostate church they are not christian, you only have to look at their teachings, un-natural non biblical ramblings and traditions of mere mortal men.
I urge any Catholics to leave the RCC before its too late, it is a den of evil and certainly not christian in any way. pompous arrogance is all you will find in it.
