Neoconservative war porn ''Hurt Locker'' wins Oscar for best picture.

A terrible movie, boring as hell but it promotes the Anglo wars in the mid east so they gave it the best picture. All Art is political even when it's bad. Protest the wars and American imperialism by boycotting this hate movie.

... war porn... thats a laugh. In fact is an over statement that diminished porn itself.

The film itself is in fact very well put together.

The hype around The Hurt Locker is that Bigelow may be the first female director to win an Oscar. How insulting that a woman is celebrated for a typically violent all-male war film.

If you consider this film "porn" you should probably seek help.

Also your labelling as "neocon" is rather silly.

Michael Moore (hardly a neoconservative idol) said that the Hurt Locker had a political message alright. However he said that the message was opposite of the one you are purporting the Hurt Locker as representing.

    As he says:
"The truth is “The Hurt Locker” is very political. It says the war is stupid and senseless and insane. It makes us consider why we have an army where people actually volunteer to do this. That’s why the right wing has attacked the movie. They’re not stupid — they know what Kathryn Bigelow is up to. No one leaves this movie thinking, “Whoopee! Let’s keep these wars going another 7 years!”

This begs the question Mr Horses, have you in fact watched The Hurt Locker?

Your dead right, they didn't give it to Jane Campion for ''The Piano'' a masterpiece of cinema out of pure anti-women spite but they gave it for this trash. Hollyweird is Pro-war an deeply misogynistic.

I sympathise with what John Pilger said about it, that the film is another in a long, long line of wartime movies which are blatantly propagandistic from the WW2 era onwards, in the case of Vietnam war movies and this film (Iraq) it's because they tell the story from the point of view of the invader - and that the narrative is that 'America has been hurt' and attempts are made only to empathise with the US troops (in this case bomb disposal people) - although he points out that there are exceptions like Casualties of War, Redacted and the Oliver Stone trilogy. He seems to me to have a valid point that Hollywood shies away from stories that humanise Iraqis/Vietnamese etc when they cover those issues and fail to show things even some of the time through their eyes and instead gets behind a 'support the troops' agenda and that the oscars are also a reflection of that...Having said that i haven't seen this one myself and don't plan to.

I agree with the OP that politics (actual politics with a capital P not insider Hollywood favouritism politics) would determine to a large extent the success of this film at the awards, in general i think the Oscars are not a reliable barometer on the quality of movies but part politics, part self-promotion of well-lobbied products - the Oscars 'brand' isn't all that great except for commercial reasons (sure Scorcese went decades without getting the best director award, that alone speaks volumes).

That doesn't exclude the possibility that it is still propaganda.
