@Cookiemonster , it seems that people respond to the tenor rather than the appended content/ comments of the OP. A particularly lrish desire for regurgitation that advises half-assed response and quasi-polemic.

The rise in so-called atheism is a symptom of the dumbing-down of our society.
Most self-proclaimed atheists are entirely unable to give an account of their beliefs and instead seek refuge in the herd.
Simply referring to logic and reason, while simultaneously alluding to magic, when cornered, as well as the ability to insult other religions, seems to be all that is required to be an atheist.
Bestowing guru status on the likes of Dawkins says it all really.

There has never in the history of humankind been as many educated people on the planet as there is today.
The exact same can be said of theists.
It is the theists who allude to supernatural abilities not the atheists.
Don't all followers of a certain train of thought or trend bestow guru status on those who they believe articulate their viewpoint well. People bestow guru status on their favourite rock band, sportsperson, author, actor etc etc. Religions have their Popes, Immans, Rabbi's, Monks etc. All guru's to their followers.
Atheists miss the point in my opinion. Where we stand in relation to God and what he would expect from us are questions that are not really resolved by his non-existence. In my opinion the absence of God doesn't answer any questions but simply deprives us of the questions.
Where atheists score is in their opposition to and ridicule of the people who tell us they have the answers and we need look no more. I have often wondered why those who proclaim themselves atheists live , in my experience, less "sinful" lives than the rest of us. recently someone told me (with a straight face) that the devil doesn't bother tempting atheists because he has them already.
The editorial linked to at the end of that article is even more provocative; Time to accept that atheism, not god, is odd - opinion - 03 March 2010 - New Scientist
