It's not an issue in GB. Alastair 'We don't DO God' Campbell will vouch for that. Channel 4 had a programme on the Bible on Sunday night and Ann Widdicombe made a real tit of herself.

    Ruairi Quinn?

Declaring yourself an athiest is hardly a vote grabber in this country. There are a lot more old dears saying the rosary than there are beardy polo-necks listening to free form jazz.

Ivana Bacic is the only openly Atheist politician that I'm aware of on there shores. I'm sure there are more though.

I'd love to see a debate on television involving athiests and Christian politicians.

The Christian would try to make it all sound believable while the Athiest would try to not offend the Christians.

I would be able to trust an athiest politician a lot more, people who have power and believe in God tend to believe that he speaks to them and that they are overly important or that God is directing them etc.

Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris and others regularly take on politicians in debate.

Make what all sound believable? Surely you would want politicians to be debating matters of political importance. It is quite possible that they would share a similar point of view on such matters. I am a Christian, I share many political opinions with friends of mine who are not and likewise I differ on many political matters with friends of mine who share my faith, and vice versa.

Not Hitler. All Communist politicians are necessarily athiest.
