Tasty! That would be the majority protestant influence then...

The Irish tricolour is already abused enough without providing more opportunities. We don't aply the laws already in place regarding flying the flag so why would any new laws change that. Rather than reading out the 1916 document (the work of a few bloodthirsty demented eejits) we'd be far better giving our second level sudents the option of taking an "Irish Studies" subject, which would include the old civics and a grounding in Irish culture (including the Gaelic language) and history (which is sghamefully neglected). Drop compulsory Irish Gaelic and put the language in its proper context and not part of some point race.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

I'm pretty sure there are no laws in relation to the tricolour.

Hmmm ... downgrade Irish to protect it? People might just fall for that one.

There are, including the fact that it must be taken down at dusk every night and that no flag should fly higher than it when it's flying from any building. As I said, tese laws are not respected, so why would more laws related to the flag help matters?

Making Irish non-compulsory is not downgrading it. There are ways to get people interested in things other than by wielding the big stick of compulsion. Why do some people have this need to make everything the subject of rules, regulations and laws? A legacy of catholicism?

It's not downgrading, no more than forcing people to study it is upgrading. The context is key key and having people voluntarilly choosing the subject would enhance it.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Care to direct me to these 'laws'?

In relation to the Irish language, that's perfect, as long as you're willing to 'upgrade' English as well.
