The Irish tricolour is already abused enough without providing more opportunities. We don't aply the laws already in place regarding flying the flag so why would any new laws change that. Rather than reading out the 1916 document (the work of a few bloodthirsty demented eejits) we'd be far better giving our second level sudents the option of taking an "Irish Studies" subject, which would include the old civics and a grounding in Irish culture (including the Gaelic language) and history (which is sghamefully neglected). Drop compulsory Irish Gaelic and put the language in its proper context and not part of some point race.

Making Irish non-compulsory is not downgrading it. There are ways to get people interested in things other than by wielding the big stick of compulsion. Why do some people have this need to make everything the subject of rules, regulations and laws? A legacy of catholicism?![]()
