We enjoy what we have when alive. That is all we will ever experience. My grandchildren know that, and still they practice their musical instruments.

A woman my age (68 next week) said to me today in the Beaumont hospital the only thing certain is we will not die young.
    Hi Maurice,

a personal question if it's ok with you, as you do invoke you children/grandchildren quiet often,

Have any of your children, grandchildren or great grand children ever being baptised/christianed, or made their first holy communion?

I leave that type of obvious forcasting to clairvoyants like yourself, JCR

Theorising based on knowledge is always a welcome stimulation.

Our own two children were baptised. our son a Roman catholic, our daughter a protestant.
1960 and 1961. Maureen and I were lapsed christians and had not then made up our minds about the doubts we had concerning a God, we had stopped attending churches in our early teens. So it was our parents that insisted on Christenings.
Neither of our children made first communions, by then we had made our minds up, we were atheists. Quite independent of other atheists.

Some of our grandchildren were baptised others were not, it has depended on the in-laws.
    The great-grandchildren were christened.

All of them saw or will see a father Christmas.

We each develope at our own pace. They will make up their own mind. I would guess earlier than I did.

I am fascinated by the fact, children steeped in the bible stories and all that goes with them still find themselves doubting it all as they reach their age of reason. The dawn of independent thought.

Then comes the really hard work!!!

I find that extraordinary. As a mater of interest what part of the country do you live in? Just general indications - province, urban/rural?
If the fears of these woman are indicative of the cultural milieu that you live in I think I have a clearer understanding of the point of many of your previous posts.

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."

Not all of us search and question.

Away from their friends and neighbours loneliness is the curse of the elderly.

They know it in their heart that they are completely alone! Godless.

Blaise Pascal, did not live to see very much at all at all.

My grandchildren know more than he ever imagined.
