Jaysus charley, is that a question or a prayer ? Either way, it's a good post. Emotive.

But I think what Maurice is referring to, and what I've understood it to mean is the Dark - facing your own end in the knowledge that:

the lights go out and you cease to exist, your hopes ,your dreams ,your failures, mistakes all vanished forever to the cold darkness, the ones left behind do they hold you fresh in their memories or does it fade into the deep black darkness never again to be exposed to the light.

    That's the Dark I think.

I read the OP again and given the referenceto St. Paul. I think this is what Maurice is referring to.
    Under Review.

From experience I know how my grandparents were remembered, but only vaguely, by my brother and sisters because they all died or were already dead when we were young children.

    I already have great-grandchildren.

My grandchildren, some of them already adults, will definitely remember me, we even communicate on the Internet.

My Darkness is the deeper knowledge outside the experiences of a St Paul. How little he really knew about anything!

The Cosmos Darkness of people like Carl Sagan is inspirational.

How do we get his life affirming knowledge embracing enthusiasm into the artificially closed minds of children under the influence of false enlighteners at school and in poorly lit homes, under the guidance of dimwits.

I once experienced total darkness in a deep cave in the uk when the guide switched of the lights. In that total darkness I suddenly realised just how bright I was.

Unlike St Paul who just experienced seeing the light, I was the light, in the total dark.

    Darkness as an entity

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I know before I start that I'm going to get hammered on this one.
Ah, what the hell! I've had a good life!

The thing is: cosmologists have for decades now been looking for the dark matter that they suppose makes up the missing matter of the Universe.
What if this matter is well,....er ...darkness.
But, I hear you say, darkness is merely the absence of light.
What though, if darkness has an entity.
It is there, all pervading, ready to rush in around you when light is removed.
It could well be the one constant in the universe.
Being so ubiquitous each "quanta"-for want of better word- would only need to have a minuscule electrical charge and a minuscule mass to add up to the required universal mass needed. A mass and charge so tiny that no one was ever aware of it's existence.
Would it not be ironic if all the astronomers and cosmologists were so blinded by the light that they failed to see the importance of the encircling darkness.

    I have to go now.
I see the guys with the white coats coming up the driveway

How very apt......seeing the Dark. In fact you can't "see the Dark" at all. Darkness is an absence of light, it is not something of itself, but rather an absence, an emptiness.

Seems very appropriate that Atheism wants us to "see the Dark" when in fact there is nothing to be seen, a false premise if you will. And certainly nothing to offer, emptiness & absence rather than something of itself.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Did anyone else have a deja vu moment with all that talk of the Dark Side?

And now the light of pride and vanity shines out of your arse like a shiny beacon to guide us to the dark (one). Keep taking the pills Maurice.
