    Richard Dawkins and His Followers.

The Gods of the Bibles, and even the Greeks, were just so primitive, yet the description of such things have hardly evolved at all thanks to the very limited imaginations of those who believe in such entities.

Surely we Atheists can do much better?

The God of Science must be................................?

(Not just a grey haired Oxford Scholar.....no matter how intelligent!)

In the Beginning was the Word.

Energy was required to sustain the evolution, and will continue to be required.

Even our own bodies consist of a lot of energy. Energy cannot be destroyed. Where does the energy in our bodies go?

    Yes.

Carl Sagan's "Starstuff" answers your where do we go, question. His Cosmology was breathtaking.

Dicky Dawkins had stated that he believes in Aliens -but to be fair he also said it's unlikely, but a material possibility -in fact he considered that they must exist given the apparent vastness (endlessness?) of existence. It caused a bit of a controversy (and no doubt sold a few more hardback books at £19.99) but then he made it worse more recently by saying these aliens could have been 'seeders' responsible for all live on our planet. Dawkin fans dismissed the renewed controversy insofar as the statements were made under duress during a 'hit piece' by the 'deniers'. There was some more word twisting and he wrangled out of it (but not before selling a few more books at £28.00 inc. VAT).

He appeared on Pat Kenny (think it was still Kenny doing the Late Late) and said that because he (Dawkins) was getting older, if he got sick, he would want a facilitated suicide (again, it was a comment to that effect -not the precise phraseology). The Audience were asked if they believed in God and nearly everyone put a hand up and stared at Dicky with palpable suspicion (the Irish are now suspicious of everyone and everything).

As a (real) atheist myself I find his books interesting, but his theory of memetics is laughable (the defense is usually: oh that wasn't really Dicky, that Blackmore one hijacked the theory and she's one of 'them', practicing zen and dying her hair multi-colours).

At this point Dawkins is just another talking-head who has made himself into a rich celebrity, dishing out books to fans who probably can't really afford them. A hardcore atheist, John Grey, has accused Dawkins (and others) of retaining the core tenets of Christianity -i.e. Dawkins might say "we alone have the special ability..." or he will talk in terms of the inexorable and inevitable and endless 'progress' of science and insist that science is the truth (scientism) --notions of teleology, progress, and the special place of humanity and the endeavors of humanity are all at the core of Christianity.

'Pop science' has been all the craze for a time, but now skepticism is one again at the fore of human thinking and perception. Is there really one truth? 'Neo-atheism' is now coming into play and conceives of the 'all' versus the 'one', but let's not go there...
