FIFA to cave in on replay request?

    From RTE

    FIFA President calls extraordinary meeting
    Monday, 23 November 2009 17:45
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has called an extraordinary meeting of the world governing body's executive committee in response to the Republic of Ireland's controversial defeat by France in the World Cup play-offs.

The meeting in Cape Town next week has also been called in response to the hundreds of arrests across Europe by officers investigating corruption in football.

FIFA said in a statement: 'Due to recent events in the world of football, namely incidents at the play-offs for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, match control (refereeing) and irregularities in the football betting market, the FIFA president has called an extraordinary meeting of the executive committee.

'The extraordinary meeting of the executive committee will take place in Cape Town on 2 December 2009.'

It's a big leap from having a meeting to holding a replay, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Did you put the word "refereeing" in brackets?
If so, the statement would just have said..."match control and irregularites in the football betting market."
Which is a Hell of a lot different from suggesting they're discussing Henry's goal.

No chance this will happen. Opens up too much of a precedent.

I would have expected investigation into Henrys unsporting conduct but that would probably have been scheduled by now if it was to happen.

There'll be no replay. It will be interesting to see if they discuss introducing video refereeing. That would be a sign that it may be introduced in some form in the future. Nothing much changes quickly with FIFA unless Blatter wants it.

Do we really think we're that important?
The whole thing has been blown out of all proportion, bad decisions happen in nearly every match. This one happened to us. I know it hurts more because we rarely make major championships. To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing the French do well because the French public have been superb towards us. I doubt the English or Italians would have been half as sympathetic, had it been them.

    .

I thought there was already precedent? A referee restarted a match after there was a foul during a penalty kick at some match between two small unimportant countries.

    No chance of a replay.
Yes refereeing is on the table as well as betting irregularities.
Henry's said he considered leaving footbal - silly prick, it only happened last week and he thought about leaving and has now decided not to obviously. He also says that there should be a replay.
