    "Oktoberfest" in Dublin Docklands.

Last evening, I rolled over to the Oktoberfest in Dublin Docklands. Had to queue for ages to get in, then queue for an equally long time to get a beer. The only beer available was Paulaner. Each pint of this beer cost €5.50. How the hell is this a marketed as a proper German festival? Why is this public space allowed to be rented to private companies who fleece the public by conning them into thinking this is a proper festival?

I would think if this was a real German festival we would have a number of German beer suppliers, and a number of food suppliers. All the food was more or less the same price, and just one beer.

I did not stay after the first beer and left feeling robbed, seems Paddyland is still the land of the conmen.

I would not be allowed get the space from the authorities for it because I dont believe in bribing people.

The Porterhouse is a pub. In Germany for Oktoberfest there are many beer tents from many suppliers. So, why dont you get your facts straight before mouthing off support for the FFleecemerchants.

I'm convinced that you wander around Dublin looking for things to get annoyed about.

I havent been to Oktoberfest yet this year. Im going tomorrow. Friends of mine have gone, they had a great time. I went last year; it was great fun. Paulaner are entitled to set up their own mini-festival if they want. That's how the free market works.

Would you rather there was nothing on at all? If you have any evidence that other German beer companies wanted to set up and were prevented, let's hear it. Otherwise you're just engaged, as always, in pointless bullsh1t sloganeering

i was gonna go to check this out myself as i was over in berlin a couple of months back and wanted to try a few of the beers you could get there.

didnt know it was only paulaner, so thanks for the heads up.

TBH though i couldnt be arsed going into town anymore as its too much hassle so it looks like im missing nothing as i dont like the taste of that beer.

it is interesting to note that this seems to be the most low key oktoberfest in years. most pubs try to cash in on it in some manner or another but most of my locals dont seem to have bothered at all.

it really is a shame as gemany has some great beers and unique food. its actually quite hard to just go into a pub there and get a decent selection as they seem to only sell particular beers in particular regions so the idea of a festival with the whole lot in one place sounds like a no brainer.

guess it was just executed wrong.

My only problem with Oktoberfest is the visibility of the maid's unmentionables and oggling men with too much to drink getting wild notions about rumpy pumpy. It is essential that for a clean, family-friendly festival, that the german waitress' cover up. Only then will I attend Oktoberfest.
I know what it is I want, but I cannot answer the question when my conscience asks why.

I say again, if you want a selection of German beers go to the Porterhouse. They're running their own 'Oktoberfest' thingy

I hope you and your pals enjoy getting rode from behind when you pay over the odds for a scam masquerading as a beer festival.

Let me explain this to you again, seeing as you are a bit slow. In Germany for the festival, there are many different beers on sale, not just one. Oddly enough, the beers are different prices. Now, zoom to Paddyland, one beer, fixed price. SCAM. Another way to get this into your head would be for you to imagine a town in Germany running a Paddysday gig, but they sell just Murphys, and have a parade with just one float.

This is a public space, its being used to fleece people.

Why cant things be done properly here? A few different beers, a few genuine German food producers marketing their goods?

    why bother?

if thats the extent of things i may as well go to the off liscence and avoid temple bar altogether.

    less chance of getting glassed.

cheaper too. one pub does not a festival make.

ive no objection to paulaner cashing in but the city is providing the space. they should at least be honest about the fact its not an oktoberfest, its a promotion of one brand.

Are you a bit slow? The Porterhouse is a pub, Oktoberfest is about tents.
