    Support the Basque People

We call on you to show your support to the Basque people at this crucial time by coming along to the picket line that the Belfast Basque Committee is organising on Saturday 20th of January, International Day of support for the Basque process, at 2pm outside Cultúrlann.

    Who exactly are 'we'?

Do you speak Basque as well as Lakota Sioux?

And why is the time 'critical'?

Good luck with the picket chara!

I think its important every year to highlight to your holiday making friends and family to keep their euro out of spains economy. While the Basque's struggle with their battle for independance too many Irish holiday makers pour their cash into Spains tourism industry every year.

ETA Abu! (anyone know how to get Fada's on your key board? )

While the Basques struggle - what a joke! As someone who knows the area well, most Basques are not struggling for independence. They practically have it. They raise their own taxes, they speak their own language, and their government is strongly nationalist and moving the country towards independence(Plan Ibarretxe) albeit not in the form that Batasuna want. Anyway spanish influence has practically diminished to zero, so tell me why the well does ETA still continue planting bombs killing innocent people? The problem there, however is that its turned back to Franco times excpet that this time the boot is on the other foot. Theres no debate, everybody is ostensibly nationalist and yet in the big cities the Spanish parties are still voted in? Theres obviously a problem there, but its not that they dont have independence yet(and believe me they will), but its that there is too much muscle on side and fear on the other.

I know a shopkeeper in a radical town who pays exortion and allows ETA posters on her shopwindow and yet secretly hates them and has moved from voting PNV to voting PP(Spanish nationalists).
