Newcastle are as good at football as Charlie himself.

SMASH THE NAMA REPUBLIC GET OUT AND PROTEST
Why don't the FAI use the money they spend flying 80 or so "officials" to every foreign game in developing and promoting the game here instead.
Football here is a basket case - some of the shennanigans that have gone on at Cork City are just unbelievable. Does the FAI even review or do background checks on some of the chancers that get involved with LOI clubs.
Football in Cork is thriving but it's down to the work carried out by parents/volunteers at junior clubs and nothing to do with the FAI or the support received from Cork City who use them as free "academy" clubs.
I'm old enough to remember Johnny Giles and Eamonn Dunphy taking over at Shamrock Rovers at Milltown way back in the mid-70s (I think it was).
Big, big plans were announced. The club was going full-time professional, loads of money would be brought in, Rovers would not only dominate the domestic scene but would go on to be a force in Europe.
Didn't last. Couldn't last. Cloud cuckooland as far as the LOI was concerned.
A few good people did invest their hard-earned dosh in the LOI over the years but they were always held back by the smallminded numpties in Merrion Square, whose only interest seemed to be in swanning around with the International team. Keano was right about them.
Nobody with any sense would put their money into the LOI until there is a radical overhaul. There won't be one because the "decent skins", as Dunphy called them, won't allow it to happen because it would threaten their wee manors.
For a budget of 2 million a year someone could get an Irish team into the Europa League group stages. Buying an Irish club would be as cheap as chips. If someone was to do that eventually they could get to the CL group stages. With the prize money build a proper all seater 15,000 plus stadium and an academy. Comparative to investing in the English PL it would be very cheap. But Dermot Desmond and Charlie Chawke are retards, plain and simple.
It was a realistic aim to say this season Bohs could have made CL with a bit of luck. Debrecen from Hungary made it and the Hungarian League is below LOI in co-efficent.
