Anyone taking bets on how long the street will remain closed - they are telling us 3 weeks?

Come off it -how could anyone support the full closure of the road?

Unless you mean were they supportive of management by their silence -in which case most were.

The report I heard was Sheppard, McCarthy and Martin spoke in that order against the full closure and Seannie might have said a little to back them up. I didnt hear of any councillor agreeing with the manager other that Whitty by way of clarification.

I think those who remained silent, did so because they were unsure of the legal and safety aspect to the whole issue, but I think the others had already made a good enough case to show it was the contractor who was calling the shots here not the town council, and any opportunity to get fair justice for local residents and businesses was missed by those cllrs who said nothing.

Anyone know the full story behind the site front at the Casement square?

Is there an issue with money to finish the project? or is it like a little bird told me a objection from the public that has caused work to halt.

Or are the both stories just scuttlebutt?

Yip both stories are just that.

Planning has already been granted -council wants it finished asap.

No shortage of money there either. We are talking about multi millioneire owner of Supermacs. He has a big prpoperty and business portfolio in the US also.

McDonagh does want McDonagh likes and wont be told by others what to do.

Your a mine of info alltogether, any news on the cobh developement plan the string of pearls idea?

Also any word about the medical centre? What are the council doing to promote and advance this highly benifical item for the town?

Well as you know the string of pearls idea's-while great in theory are really only aspirational.

Thats just my view -its mainly based on others investing the money to bring those plans to fruition and while that was hardly going to happen to a great degree when the money was around, its less likely to happen now or any time soon.
The council and the development plan as far as i can see, will merely facilitate those developments in terms of planning.

The medical centre - which one?

Do you mean the private one in relation to DR McDonald and Co whom I'm told are moving to a new one at the Ticknock units?

Or do you mean the proposal by D Higgins for below Carrick House which was already refused planning?

That one indeed would have been a worthwhile development in terms of jobs and future services. I cant understand why they refused it -i think theres an appeal there or some changed plan gone in.

Then there is that other near empty building at Bishop Street owned by the HSE. The community Welfare Officer works from the ground floor of it and they refer to it as the Cobh Health Centre.
I understand our local private GP's were offered facilities there but turned them down. Its now a mainly empty building with only the occassional use of upstairs by a HSE school dentist. More taxpayers money wasted!

I hadnt known about the higgins item at all.

I also didnt know that the ticknock centre was to be a completly private affair, I was hoping that it was a joint venture to provide a centre of good standard as the trip to midleton for parents for sick childern at night to southdoc is just not on.

Would you agree that getting all the doctors into one place with decent parking, warm modern surroundings is a good idea?

I agree that any building that is available in the town could be used is the facilities where up to scratch.

What building is owned by the HSE by the way, I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of the town been stuck on the outskirts.

Ya I agree with your point about having all the docs with good facilities in one building, but i fear that wont make a tap of difference to the sad south doc situation. That decision i would guess comes from on high at the HSE.

I'm not quiet sure about the Tick Nock situation. I have the feeling its a private arrangment with the doctors at the old dispencary on top of the hill opting for new rented space out there -I'm open to correction here of course.

The HSE currently have a fine building at Bishop/Thomas Street which it had developed about 15-20 years ago and which for some strange reason the local docs refuse to avail of.

Yes Dave Higgins has great plans to develope a new Health Centre below his own poperty at Carrick House. I'm told the HSE are in favour of them but cant understand why he was refused planning -maybe its not over yet.
