Looks like there wont be a election as there is 9 candidates and only 9 seats! Closing date for nominations this Saturday 17th of may. So unless there is a late application there wont be a town election.
I just think 9 seats is a way too many for a small town like Skibbereen. 5 seats would do.
9 seats does seems a fair bit too many since electorate in 2004 was 1,910.
false alarm there is now 12 candidates but they dont look the most serious.
Grew up in Skibb and never saw the UDC as anything but an opportunity for the smug to parade their sense of civic duty. And get their photos in the Southern Star.
I realise (in my tender dotage) that there are some people who run for the UDC and are motivated by more than one-up-manship at the golf club. But UDCs are a complete waste of time, space, and column inches.
