Not to worry. I shall be protesting on Monday and who knows, maybe someone will show some sense and reinstate the show. I have no other interest in the station and D'arcy isn't too bad, so C103 will lose a listener. We'll see if they care.

Hope you're going to support David too. If you are we may meet in person.
Wash your mouth out with soap and Water! Tim Coughlan on the Irish Sunday programme is worth 50 David youngs. Stick with with C103

If I've ever heard???? C'mon now Mick, you and Bernadette are as much a part of West Cork Today as "Grumpy", "Ronnie in Durrus" or even David himself.

That's something the bosses at UTV/C103 don't seem to understand. It's not just a radio show they have axed, they have also broken up our little "community". A community stretching from Cork City to the Islands who have debated, argued and reasoned countless issues and have tuned in day after day for 5 years to debate, argue and reason all over again, all under the stewardship of one of the most balanced and objective presenters ever to hit the airwaves. It's not just David who is being shafted here, it's the loyal listeners and contributers to the show as well.

Roll on Monday and we'll get a chance to explain all this to Keiran McGeary, CEO of 96FM and C103. I don't know if it will make any difference. If the man was stupid enough to axe the show in the first place I doubt he'll have accumulated the intelligence to reinstate it in the space of a week.

I'll be talking to a good few of the regulars over the weekend and make sure they know about the situation and the protest. Hopefully they will be able to find the time to come along. I'll be there anyway and I look forward to seeing you both there along with the rest of the gang. I hope Grumpy brings his truck.

Timmy's the man with the music allright!! I stand corrected. but David has the gift of the gab. Why settle for one when we can have both?

Sorry Wellin, no David no C103. It's as simple as that.

could'nt have said it better myself Hugh!

Doing the same here - short notice and moving fast (we need airtime!)

It looks like UTV pulled the wool over the BCIs eyes when they agreed this, same response to everyone who's written and no mention of financial cuts in the discussions. C103 then talks to the press and puts it down to economic issues.

In McGeary's own words "This is just another aspect of stream-lining. What we have done is nothing out of the ordinary." (Changes at Cork radio station - News, Frontpage - Corkman.ie)

So, no advance notice to the listeners, no explanation the following week when the show has just 'disappeared', no courtesy to anyone including their own employees (55,000 listeners in the West Cork region to boot), and how they've handled it is 'nothing out of the ordinary'!

    Blimey, what a management strategy!

Wonder if Yankie Mike and his bike are in town

Catch you Monday - look forward.

    Mick

Just to remind everyone of the protest taking place tomorrow morning at C103 about the axing of David Young's highly popular radio programme 'West Cork Today'. Come one, come all:

Ironically, C103 has just been criticised on air, in the last ten minutes, on the Cork Today show, by an interviewee, for the dropping of the West Cork Today programme.

That does surprise me, but I'm glad somebody managed to get the point across. There's an awful air of denial about this whole situation and a whole pile of people burying their heads in the sand, no doubt hoping the issue will just slide into oblivion. Top of the list is Keiran McGeary. He was very reluctant to meet the protesters today but I think he finally realised we were not going away until he made an appearance. Not as chatty with us as he was with the press either, but then I suppose he also realised there was no point in feeding us the usual BS.
