We will also be there at the protest.

UTV negotiated this with the BCI and stated that the change would improve the service!
C103 droppped the programme and did not inform the listenership before the change, nor did they acknowledge the talents of their own presenter. (It smells!).
What they did do however was feed the press statements that this was do to with financial cutbacks.

Tell the BCI one thing to keep them sweet, then follow their own agenda with no respect for the local community.

The show was great and although not overtly political myself it was a breath of fresh air that was able to cut through any of the 'proverbial' (you know what i mean!).

Don't let it get dumbed down - power to the people!

    A quick comment for 'KerryNorth'

Hi, your comments are balanced if you look at this from maybe a distant perspective but here in West Cork there is a lot of anger about it.

The guy really served the local region. Entertaining, engaging, very informative and brought a dose of 'health' to politics. The new schedule is'nt going to replace this so we don't want to let it slip by.

Hope you appreciate where we're coming from - its not a conspiracy from the community - just an honest opinion.

C103's David Young is one of the countries fairest, most balanced, yet incredibly incisive interviewers.

Any interview with a politian was very tough, but very very fair.

Everyone, from Richard Bruton to FF to Sinn fein was treated toughly but equally.

No messing was taken but in a good humored way.

It is terrible that this great broadcaster was taken off air.
A fantastic presenter and an very decent person. I have had the immense pleasure of tormenting David Young throughout his tenure as presenter of the West Cork Today programme and can honestly say that I put him through a living nightmare. He took everything that I could throw at him in his stride and always retained a fantastic sense of humour.

I don't know what cretin came up with the decision to axe David's show but I have to say it was a huge error of judgement. It was the only show I listened to on C103 and it stood head and shoulders above the North cork version and Neil Prendeville on 96FM so I reckon it's off to that D'arcy fella on Today FM for me.

Such a shame. This really couldn't have happened to a nicer person, but no matter. Any presenter with the talent and style that David Young possesses won't be out of a job for long. I just hope I'm able to tune in and give him a bit more grief. No better man to take it.

All the best of luck David. I'm missing you already.

Young was a good host, I met the man once, I was interviewed by him once and rang in another time. He was a good enough journalist in what he covered, but could come across as false on his show sometimes. There are youngs in West Cork but he is from Mullingar.

There's not much on Robert St, apart from the goods entrance to Penney's and an Indian handicrafts shop. Either would wonder why they had people protesting outside.
EEK. Sorry - that was my mistake. You are quite right. Google Maps has the 96fm office with the correct address, but that location.

So it is on Wellington St., which is parallel to McCurtain St.

Thanks for pointing this out, Quentin.

Oh bugger. I was wondering why it was Patricia Messenger on, I thought David Young was on a holiday. Didn't know the West Cork show was canceled.

On a personal level, I won't be listening to C103 from now on. I've heard the past few mornings shows and none of the topics came out as relevant to the west cork area. Unless they reinstate the show.
On a business level, UTV have made a mistake axing the show. Advertising revenue will suffer as the western businesses slow down their advertising to the station and many listeners will move to a different station.

Howya HughinBandon, your texts to David were funny.

    I am indeed Mr Mebollox.

Reduced to stalking primitive prey on Politics.ie since David was axed.

Not to worry. I shall be protesting on Monday and who knows, maybe someone will show some sense and reinstate the show. I have no other interest in the station and D'arcy isn't too bad, so C103 will lose a listener. We'll see if they care.

Hope you're going to support David too. If you are we may meet in person.

    Thank you myksav, much appreciated.

I hope you're right and the show is reinstated. Hopefully there will be a good bit of support for David on Monday.

If anyone has his e-mail address I would appreciate if they could PM me with it. I would like to thank him personally for cheering me up every morning for the last god knows how many years and wish him well for the future.

    Thanks.

    hi Hugh,

If you've ever heard of Mick or Bernadatte from Ballydehob ("where the sun always shines") well this is us in 'real life'!

We don't know who initiated the protest but we'll be there (will be great to meet your goodself).

On a serious note the UTV/C103 decision is madness - even from their own perspective.
There's a lot of words out there already and i'm sure more to follow - lets hope they do some listening now!

    all the best,

    Mick
