Still tho, it's very promising to see some good hurlers in this 09 Cork Panel for the future and all that, whatever about the way things will go in the immediate short term

Yes there are a few who would be worth keeping even if the real squad came back.

1-13 to 0-8

Ah feck it, that 2nd goal has killed off a reasonably respectable scoreline .. up to that it was by no means and far from a massacre as per some ppl's predictions

Well yes, this isn't going to work anyway (that was kinda obvious already but reinforced by actual playing results now).

Only good thing to be said about this, is if the 08 Panel/guts of it does come back into playing and ppl sort out their differences, having played these 09 guys and got a few good extra players being blooded who otherwise might not have had a quick an opportunity to do so, has to be seen as positive.

Re the recent backing of a majority of Clubs of the Board that has me mystified to an extent. Unless maybe applying it to my own local Club. In that here, the ones who without fail continue to attend Club Meets are the hard core older generation always involved gang a majority of which are County Board men. But there are equally a lot of young Club Players and prob Supporters too who would favour the 08 Panel - it's just they couldnt be arsed attending Club Meetings and voicing opinions. That's prob the same for other Clubs too.

Why are you mystified? Those young men have challenged the authority of the democratically elected Cork County Committee. And there is no County Committee more democratic that that of Cork. It consists not just of the elected officers but also has a Representative (not a Delegate) of each club in the county. In challenging the authority of the County Committee, these county hurlers have indirectly challenged the authority of the clubs in County Cork. And this has been the thrid time within a decade. To make matters worse, last year these county hurlers were challenging the County Committee concerning the appointment of a manager of the Cork football team.

Pride comes before a fall. I hope that the Cork County Committee never allows them back. Please remember that a person may not play for a county team if his name is not on the team sheet - signed by the County Secretary.

I was at the match between Cork and Tipperary last night and the final scoreline does not reflect the game at all. As a Tipp man I thought the Cork team played quite well and were in the hunt for most of the game until the two goals for Tipp. I don't think Cork should worry that much if the 2008 panel doesn't come back; on last night's performance they have lots of fine hurlers. They are young and it's going to take them a while to bulk up physically but I would think in two years the team I saw playing last night will be challenging for an All Ireland. It was sad the lack of support for them. People should remember that about 7 or 8 of the 2008 panel are coming to the end of their careers anyway and the future of Cork hurling is with the lads I saw playing last night. It must be difficult for them. They're young and inexperienced and they are villified in some hurling sections of Cork and yet last night they put up a fine performance with almost no support in the crowd. I think the Tipp crowd were very impressed by them also. Some of the people we hear about in Cork who are supposed to be great supporters should think a bit in the long term and remember the 2008 panel will be gone in a few years and then you'll need the lads I saw last night. I was very impressed with them.

Last nights performance has to be the only positive point in this whole sorry mess. The players demonstrated that they have the skill and ability, if not yet the stamina and experience, for intercounty hurling. Ironically, they looked best when they played the Donal O'Grady style running game, the only game that has proved capable of beating Kilkenny in the championship this decade, the type of game the '08 pannel are advocating but a style that has been much derided by Gerald McCarthy.

Those lads will not get close to c'ship level - you are correct about a fair few of the 2008 squad nearing the end of the road but there was at least another 50 hurlers refused to play for Gerald before he managed to get the 2009 squad together.

Cork treated last Sat pm like an All Ireland final whereas Tipp were going through the motions playing training game type hurling. In another month or two Tipp and the other big teams will have geared up a fair few notches and you won't be seeing the passes going astray or the easy frees being missed from 40m out like you saw on Saturday.
Those Cork lads, though game, were playing out of their skins and don't have another level to get to.

Unfortunately, Gerald was given another two year term specifically to "get back" at the players - can you imagine any circumstances in which a Cork hurling manager with his record would be given another two year term??

What was his win/loss ratio again.
The last two Munster campaigns were undistinguished.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.
