Anyone else here have any interest in the circus that is Fermoy Town Council?

What chance do you give Fianna Fail gaining a seat in 2009?
Not knowing a huge amount about Fermoy politics, what happened to cause so many Independents to get elected last time out? As I understand it, FF and FG have one seat between them on the town council, yet hold all the seats in the corresponding County Council LEA.
Also, the PDs took a seat their last time out, has their councillor anounced his intentions, either in terms of which party he may run for or whether he will stand again at all?

The PD said he will run independent. As for Tadhg and Labour, I would imagine his seat is safe. The strong contenders this year seem to be from FG, where Pat O'Driscoll, former president of Young FG is running. It wil be interesting to see how the Green candidate does. At 19 he's the party's youngest candidate in the country for the local elections. He seems strong enough, speaks well and says all the right things when it comes to the town. I'd say his youth and the fact that he's a green could work against him.
Still, about 100 first preferences are enough to get onto FTC....
EDIT: Oh and Locke, FF and FG split the 4 seats in the LEA, but FG will suffer because one of their cllrs isn't running again, he's quite popular too.
Adam Douglas for the Green will do very well. He is one of the youngest candidates in the country but is intelligent, articulate and very clued in. He is canvassing very well.
When you say, "he is cavassing very well", -what do you mean?
From his photo in the local papers here in East Cork, he looks like he's just had his Confirmation. Talk about a baby faced.
The Greens are going to face objections they never faced before at the doorsteps.
Wait til you tell the farmers around Macroom they'll have to reduce their herd size in the name of Climate Change.
Cowardice asks the question - is it safe? Expediency asks the question - is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - is it popular? But Conscience asks the question - is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular;but one must take it simply because it is right. -MLK
