Labour has two: Cllr. Tomas O' Brien and Tony Ceirns
Greens: Cllr. Isabelle Sutton
Sinn Fein: Noel Harrington
Non Party: Cllr. Billy Lynch, Cormac Hayes and Irene Heffernan
Two of the existing members Mary Evans and Charles Henderson are not standing .
Fianna Fail could well buck the national trend here because Fine Geal blocked a bid by Lidl to open a shop in the town, while the Fianna Fail members supported the Lidl application. A lot of the town’s people were incensed at the decision, so Fianna Fail could profit as could Cllr O' Brien and Lynch.
Other local issue include the failure by Department of Education to grant funding to the proposed extension for the secondary school, along with the controversial proposed transport plan for Kinsale.
Transfers here have always been crucial and will this time too. Charles Henderson, who topped the poll on the last occasion, is ineligible to run. His vote could change the whole dynamic of the Council on polling day.
A hard election to call, but Cllr Lynch, Cllr. O Brien, Cllr Sutton, Cllr. Collins, and Cllr Cotter should be safe. Cllr. Frawley and Cllr. Treacy may well just fall over the line. If I was a betting man, Terry Connolly and Tony Ceirns should take a seat each. However, Harrington or Searls could be a surprise package.
