Met a few politicos in my local in Castlemartyr last Saturday night, it seems a young energetic and articulate businessman will be emerging in Cobh for one of the two bigger parties in the coming weeks.Originally Posted by daithi(ff)

Young Mulvihill will replace his father in cobh and is already working hard for 2012, a young person with energy but i dont think he can concintrate in cobh only, he will have to cross the bridge and hit east cork to ensure election next time, but with a strong vote comming over the bridge , he should pick alot of support among the many newcommers to east cork most of these are fom his own age group and he will be able to relate to the many issues they will fae in the comming years!
I would have thought that labour would now run one candidate next time out after this years election where this contest had a candidate from the DL and Lab. camps, and the electorate decided who they wanted to represent them. I am sure that Sean Sherlock has all of the qualities mentioned above.Originally Posted by southern rose
I think the two candidate strategy might have got Labour their seat.
If Mulvihill hadn't run, a lot of soft Labour vote in the south of the constituency might never have turned up at the polling station and Sherlock wouldn't have got the votes to bring him past Bradford.
My political compass
Economic Left/Right: 0.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.36
Ned will probably retire, possibly Ahern too. Probably sons, daughters or other relations to continue the dynasties. Stanton will be in his sixties but could continue for a while. Bradford ? will he get a Senate seat and if not he may not be a viable candidate for FG in next election? Sherlock probably there for the long haul unless he gets tired of it or SF can stage a national revival and mount a serious challenge.
I wonder who is the Cobh person Micmac is talking about? Any clues?
I take your point about the two candidate strategy, but it should not be a foregone conclusion who the second candidate should be. I dont live in Cobh, but I work there and I know most of the "players" there. As I mentioned in another thread Labour should be considering their poll-topper Noirinn Doyle who is immencely popular and would be alot more appealing to the electorate not just in Cobh but in East CorkOriginally Posted by locke
