But they are right to be afraid, their money isn't safe in Irish banks - however the only place its less safe is in their houses/mattresses.

The "celebrity doom mongers" are right, just like the economy "doom mongers" were right and the housing bubble "doom mongers" were right.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but I've only seen this thread and haven't read all 12 pages.

Who knew that he withdrew all his savings and his address? I hope the Gardaí are looking at the bank official(s) who oversaw his withdrawal.

    +1
That is what I was thinking. The timing is just so close too and I say it has to be from within the bank informing someone or is the bankers himself. Its too much money to take out anyway. I wouldnt have done that even if banks not safe or if I even had that much which I dont have. There are high levels of roberries at the moment because people are poor.

Is it any wonder that our old and other citizens are worried about their savings. They cant trust the banks and dont know what to do with their savings. They read about chancers setting up new banks in Switzerland and other exotic places all for our good of course where in reality they are preying on the natural fear and distrust of our elders.
Even people distrust the old reliable An Post. Hard to know how the state and the Government can ease this distrust.

the dirtbags who broke into my Nan's were caught.
    she didn't have much.
it's generally the usual local suspects who do this kind of thing in the city and suburbs.
it would be harder if the crime was in a more remote area and the dirtbags did some mileage.

well done to the Gardaí and anyone who helped find these pathetic excuses for thieves.
probably their car and some cameras in the area got them caught.
and the fact they seemed to know he had a wedge of money.

I imagine they'll be dealt with very leniantly by the courts. They'll come out with a sob story about how they're parents were abusive or drunks or didn't love them or some sh1te, and they'll get off with a warning.

Why do you not think being brought up in a abusive alcoholic would have adverse effects on someones moral compass?
