Who will get the FG nomination in Sligo/North Leitrim

Tony McLoughlin has already stated that he will be seeking a nomination to run in the next general election following his massive vote in the locals. Fine Gael said after the last GE that it was a mistake to run 3 candidates and with sitting TD John Perry sure to run again where does that leave Michael Comiskey.
Word on the street is that Enda McGloin is also considering his options after topping the poll in the Dromahair EA.

it was showen at last election that running a candidate from leitrim did not work so i fell the party has no choice but run a sligo candidate with strong links to leitrim and i believe this will be Tony Mc Loughlin
He works in leitrim and has other connections there
Had he ran last time out i believe fine gael would have been in the running for a second seat in sligo north leitrim however i do feel that perrys vote would have sufeered significantly as a result
Perry polled reasonably well in sligo town/ strandill areas something he will not do if tony runs.
Thius leaves the question will this split the vote and ruin chances of second seat. two seats are takeable however a strict vote management system must be adhered to
The recent european election did however show that vote management does not work for fine gael with joe o reilly getting a significant lesser note than higgins. in fact o reilly got even less than the 2nd fianna fail candidate even when the tide was supposedly for fine gael
however to finish i do believe tony will stand

Voting for Tony McLoughlin would be like voting for FF.

McLoughlin has regularly voted to rezone and over-ride the county/local plans when it suited his developer friends. The county needs a representative like him like it needs a hole in the head.

Ok. Well naturally Perry will be selected again and I feel that McLoughlin will also be selected but a few others will pop their head up but be turned down.

However Mr.Perry finds him in quite a situation. Firstly he wont be let near Sligo town as that will be McLoughlins.
Perry will have no support in West Sligo except from brother in law Mulvey but he'll will only be valuable in Coolaney and Ballinacarrow. Barrett and even Conmy although hes gone now, will get behind Mc Loughlin to get back at Perry.

I presume the Drumcliffe area will also be left to the Sligo town candidate (Probably McLoughlin) and Leonard will not help out Perry either and I don't know what the relationship is like between Lyons, Keaney and Perry.

As for Leitrim John does no work there and his website will tell you that much (Sligo Matters). So Leitrim will not get behind him in any valuable way.

So Perry will be left with Tubbercurry and Ballymote Areas and he needs to beat Deputy Scanlon well and that will be difficult even considering the view to Fianna Fáil.

Finally if Mc Loughlin runs along with Perry it might still be difficult for Fine Gael to get the 2 seats and from what I see at party meetings we might have a new name on the ballot paper next time which could do serious damage all around. It could be 1 FF, 1 FG and 1 IND/Lab depending on the candidate or it could possibly stay as it is 1 FG 2 FF.

its the worst kept secret that a certain senator is being lined up to run next time in place of a sitting td and former junior minister and although yes that will probably save that seat there is absolutely no hope of them holding onto the second seat.
As for 1 labour seat- possible but who have they got to run, Cawley wont pick up votes in rural areas .

and for the previous poster,as far as i am aware tony now works for a leitrim based quarry and his wie is originally from leitrim

I looked at the Leitrim results and that Michael Comiskey was not a candidate. The Boundary review brought more of Leitrim into Sligo/North Leitrim leaving basically just the Carrick on Shannon area in with Roscommon. Going by the Leitrim results there is no outstading votegetter from either FG or FF. For FG to take a 2nd seat I reckon they need to run a Leitrim based candidate that can reach into Sligo and also FG will have to direct Sligo members to vote for the Leitrim candidate as part of a vote management exercise.

Yes it brought all of the Dromahaire area into Sligo which was just Drumshanbo.
However will Fine Gael take the chance at running three again including 1 Leitrim Candidate. I dont think so, although when it comes to vote management Fine Gael always make a mess of things.

To a previous post, I agree that Cawley will not get votes outside Sligo town however what about the possibility of O'Keefe. Could Bree get a seat back in the Dáil??

all things considered O keefe did absolutely terrible in Europe given labours showing nationally. ok fair enough she possibly could have done better had harkin not been in the race and dont get me wrong having spoke to her she is a genuinely decent person , however i just cant see her getting the votes.
Regarding bree if labour run candidate which undoubetdly they will then he wont take a seat and neither will they.
Were Bree to return to labour(which obviously wont happen) then i could see him taking a seat

Your right regarding fine gaels inability to mange votes...... perry himself messed up the european vote management which led to the second fine gael candidate coming behind the second fianna fail candidate
