    Connaught/Ulster MEPs

How many of our MEPs will contest the next General Election. Marian Harkin is a sitting TD, is she allowed to maintain both seats after the next general election? Can't see Seán Ó Neachtain contesting a seat in Galway West. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Higgins has a bash at Mayo next time round, maybe this is why he is clinging to the Nally Case so that he can win over more rural voters.

If Harkin were to seek re-election in Sligo-North Leitrim and was successful she is obliged to resign her Euro seat. Ditto Jim Higggins who would not be allowed to stand for the Senate if he is remaining in the Euro Parliament.

I'd imagine both O'Neachtain and Higgins will remain on as MEPs, as for Harkin I dunno its a strange one.Who'd take over in Europe?

I think was brought up somewhere else recently - apparently the Dáil vote in a replacement. Not unlike how county councils fill vacancies for independents who forfeit their seat.

Id still say Higgins will give Mayo one more go, if he loses he can toddle off back to Europe or theSeanad Éireann, whatever suits him. O'Neachtain won't budge unless FF are in disoray in Galway West.

The names on Harkin's replacement list are

    1.Paudge Connolly
    2.James Breen

So if she is elected again for the Dáil then they would be offered her EP seat in that order.Handy enough if either of them lose their own seats.

However I reckon Harkin won't run in the next GE as she can claim better expenses from the EP.
