    Devins as Minister of State

Dr Jimmy Devins is our new Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, the Department of Education and Science and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (with special responsibility for Disability Issues and Mental Health).

Will he do anything worth while or is he just there to keep an eye on Harney ?

devins only contribution for the past 5 years was to campaigne against his own party on breast check and stand with the nurses.

E Scanlon got more first preferance votes last time and this time, if I was him I would be really pissed off.

Jimmy Devins is an excellent choice as Minister of State. He has extensive experience as a doctor and a country councillor, and he comes from genuine republican stock. His well deserved promotion will assist in his representation of the area and is good news for SLigo -Leitrim. He will be able to work well with Mary Harney and with the other Ministers involved.

He was right to make a stand on breast check - cancer in it's various forms affects nearly every family. Early and proper screening nationwide for all forms of cancer is essential. As an experienced medical doctor he is only too well aware of that need. I would not blame anybody for breaching any party line on that issue.

We should wish him well in this phase of his career. Any criticism of any politician should be constructive rather than the begrudgery shown by RetiredProvo and New Labour. Anybody would think that their parties had bad general elections. ........Oh wait, they did!

So why isn't Breastcheck available in his constituency?
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

Well he was electioneering at the time, but now that the election is over and he has warmed the seat of his merc - he doesn't give a damn.

Not if Judge Mahon, an economy going south, HSE crisis and the proverbial banana skin that will come from somewhere has anything to do with it.

Even if Bertie went, the government would run it's full term under Brian Cowen.

Obviously feeling the heat. He was out and about in North Sligo this weekend, holding clinics - the first time anyone has seen him since the elections
