It seems Sean has held his vote but no real gain in votes for SF, Labour's votes is extremely poor 1,500!, down by over 1,000 1st preference than last time.

The labour party got 3,900 first preference in the local elections in 2004 and over 5,000 in 1997 before Marian Harkin came into politics.

    E. Scanlon got some vote in Sligo town.

Brian Scanlon did very well, from as far I know he only did 10 nights canvassing and put up 50 posters, not bad

Looks like a left wing seat in Sligo is a long way off

Hats off to FF, they managed the vote very well to get Scanlon votes all over the place.
FG's messing between Comiskey and Henry delivering misleading leaflets on voting strategy in Sligo probably helped in their demise.
SF will be very disappointed with this FPV total. New candidate now required to build for next time.
Labour will take a long time to lick their wounds especially as GP' Scanlon nearly outpolled them.

The problem for them is who do they get to run?

I know a tall gentleman with a well groomed mouthstache who may very well be approached in the near future

No seriously, based on Labour's implosion they should be looking at a Sligo town based candidate to capitalise on this.
Arthur G has no interest in going forward and Chris will be chomping at the bit to be allowed to run.
Instead of taking the easy option they need to blood someone else and quick. I don't think they can wait until the next locals to test the water as I don't think the 30th Dail will go full term.

The GP have now overtaken Labour in the traditional Sligo-Leitrim constituency.

McDaid took 3.26% in South Leitrim and Scanlon took 3.2% in Sligo-North Leitrim. Pretty decent result coming off a zero base.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.
