Just heard on Clare fm news that Martin Ferris has said that Cllr McCafferty has been expelled from the party but did not say why. Did anyone on here listen to the interview with Ferris on morning focus I missed it but two people had been talking about it in the local post office( local hub of rumours) did the councillor decline to go on the show and give her point of view because they did not mention much on the news?

So the councillor says she left because of the state of the party in the county but won't give details, then the head honcho for the region sticks his nose in to say she got the boot but won't say why. Very very odd behaviour indeed from both sides.

I would think the councillor has more to hide than the party do. Anyway unless she gives an interview I see that as the end of the matter.

Ya, i heard Ferris on the radio and whilst I wouldn't expect Ms McCafferty to debate with him it is strange that she is refusing to comment on radio at all on the issue.

    CLARE FM:

EXPELLED SHANNON COUNCILLOR ASKED TO GIVE UP COUNCIL SEAT
    10 February, 2012 - 14:56 Politics
Sinn Fein are calling for Shannon Councillor Cathy McCafferty to resign her seat from the town council following her expulsion from the party.
Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Ferris has confirmed to Clare FM that Councillor McCafferty has been expelled, though he did not say why.
At this week's meeting of Shannon Town Council, Cathy McCafferty told her fellow Councillors that she wished to carry on her work as an elected representative, albeit on an independent basis.
However, Deputy Ferris feels she is morally obliged to resign the position altogether

However it seems like SF have been on the streets in Clare and I'm sure they can now get on with the work of building the party and offering an alternative. Forwards and upwards

I hope all the people they forced out rejoin the party. Ex Cllr Mckee in Shannon, the people in Lisdoonvarna purged by sterns grouping, Anna Prior treated disgracefully. Decent vetern republicans and ex-pows giving a very hostile reception at cumman meetings when you and the recent people expelled were in charge. Clare SF has a chance to rebuild they are well rid of ye.

And cptstern weren't you expelled for kinda being a fantasist? like going on the ross kemp or mcintyre show or whatever -cant remember which one- - all blacked out pretending you were in the LoveUlster riots? LOL. Now you expect ppl to believe you.

Just reading your latest contribution NG and was reminded of this post from you on 13th Jan. A friend was part of the large cumann in Lisdoonvarna who were 'purged' as you put it. To say that left a very bad taste in North Clare would be an understatement not only amongst the members of the cumann but the wider SF support in the area. As I understand some of those involved in that purge, ouwith the MCCaffertys, are still involved in Clare SF.

I also wonder how what happened to the 'root and branch' investigation that was supposed to be done? As far as I can ascertain not one of the very large cumann in North Clare (including ex POW's) who were thrown out some years ago were approached as part of this investigation.

Did the McCafferty group really run off ex pow's and long standing republicans in Clare? I can't see her admitting to hindering the progress of the party in Clare. If people left because of them will they now rejoin now they have gone. Just seen the Clare SF facebook page and they seem to be out and about on issues.

"I had no father to take my part
No loving mother to break her heart
I had one friend and a girl was she
Who'd lay down her life for McCafferty

So come all you officers take advice from me
And go treat your men with some decency
For it's only lies and a tyranny
That have made a martyr of McCafferty."

    A relation by marriage perhaps?

I dont know the ins and outs of what happened in Lisdoonvarna but what I do know is that some of those that have left SF and some of those STILL there were determined to get rid of the cumann and managed to do so. It left people feeling very upset all of whom were long standing republicans. AFAIK and my info is only 2nd hand none of them were approached during the 'root and branch' investigation - wonder why?

TBH I am not really that bothered what SF get up to in Clare. I have voted for them in the past as I have for other parties but seeing how people in my local area, who were there when times were very tough, have been treated I would be very wary of voting for them again. When you mention SF in North Clare what happened to the Lisdoonvarna cumann and how its members were treated is always mentioned. It is a small community and things like that will not be forgotten.
I have also heard how Anna Prior was treated and it does not make for pleasant listening.
