    Media effectiveness in Cavan/Monaghan

As a Cavan resident, does anyone wish to speculate as to who is the best Cavan/Monaghan Public Rep at local or oireachtas level in the media both national and local at the moment ?

Can only really speak in terms of Mon because I generally avoid the Celt.

At local level, Vincent P, Hughie McElvaney and Matt Carty
At National Level Caoighmhin, but it has been suggested that that may have something to do with the editorial policy of the local paper.

Locally, i've no idea, but on a national level it's got to be O'Caolain.

That's largely down to SF organization itself i think. As well as that he's SF leader in the Dáil.

The Celt as a newspaper is dire generally, and has got worse in the past few years (photos keep getting bigger and print space smaller). Whether or not SF appear more in it is because of editorial policy or just because they're more active as a party is a matter for discussion.

But i noticed a few weeks ago that there are now 2 new free newspapers in Cavan. Remains to be seeen if they'll actually be 'news'papers or just more space for local businesses to advertise in.

    Publicity

I think Brendan Smith is quite effective getting his message across via the local newspapers and radio. It seems to be doing him good given the feedback we get on the doorsteps.

Joe O'Reilly has had exceptional local coverage since Jan 2007 as we've ramped up his campaign. No national stuff though.

Brendan Smith gets the odd snippet in the nationals and he has been on newstalk 106 a few times since it has gone national.

SF are excellent at manipulating the media but I dont know if their efforts win over new voters as effectively as their public meetings or door step challenges!

In Cavan anyway - nothing from Paudge Connolly or really very many Cllrs locally, sporadic at best.

In Cavan Brendan and Joe have the edge by far.
