New Poll: Tories would not win majority.

New Poll in the Observer shows the next election is not a fore gone conclusion.

    Conservatives-37%
    Labour-31%
    Lib Dems-17%

This poll would put Tories well short of the majority they need to govern.

A mate of mine from the UK said this to me recently; that the Tories would not win the next election despite being ahead for so long. 4th Term for Labour would certainly be historic

The UK First past the post system means that parties with a slight majority in the opinion polls can still have a landslide in the election. Blair took 418 seats in 1997 (67% of parliament) with only 43% of the votes. Only 29% of voters actually turned out for them.

Would also be disasterous for them, The next election is like 1992 or 1970- An election that your better of loosing.

Yeah but that was 13% ahead of the Tories though. The system also favours the governing party. 37% would not see the Tories get a majority.

It easily could. It depends how the vote is distributed. But a Tory-Lib Dem coalition is a possibility.

Unless you are FF and and your lust for power is so great that like all kleptomaniacs when they see something to be stolen, they go ahead and steal it irrespective of the consequences.
