48% of Northern Irish would vote for United Ireland in shock new poll.

58% of people in Northern Ireland want to stay in single market and customs union after Brexit | Irish Examiner

A new opinion poll has shown that 58% of Northerners wish to remain in the customs union and single market after Brexit. This alone shows that the DUP does not have a mandate to dictate the future of NI.

But amazingly, in the event of a hard Brexit, 48% of those surveyed say they would vote for a United Ireland.

It seems we're getting closer and closer to that day when a border poll will be called.

The headline on Newton Emerson's column this morning is "Another DUP victory on the road to defeat". Sums it up quite neatly. If the DUP want a united Ireland they are playing an absolute blinder.

What actually triggers a border poll. Is it up to the NI Secretary of State?

Yes. When, in their opinion, that such a poll would likely pass. Which would allow some scope to delay one until you start seeing support in polls up and around 60%.

And a Tory hard right British nationalist like the current one could ignore it entirely.

It's hard to argue against that premise, really.

its not the land, just the people. Maybe if the Brits gave every Nordi prod a free house in Scotland, in fact build them a new city, New Belfast?
