Brexit has been a huge game changer. It's generated an impetus in creating a very real and easily recognisable rationale for NI to be unified with the republic that is removed from arguments reliant purely on nationalism.

The poll says it's only if there's a hard Brexit

I have to laugh at some of the comments, vehement anti Shinners calling for a border poll.

Lads if it passes you're going to end up with a heap more SF voters.

Jaysus only 48%? Brexit (after Scottish Independence & 2016) was meant to deliver the mythological utopian UI...

What would be the financial cost to the Republic if there was a united Ireland? I seem to remember some research was done on this a few years ago.

I wouldn't take the number seriously, its the classic scare the establishment type question, so even if someone was a hard core unionist they might answer yes to a UI in a survey. Brexit might have changed the minds of a few castle catholics but not unionists. It also assumes the survey was properly carried out

True. But clearly the Sinn Fein party will immediately wind itself up, having achieved its sole raison d'etre.

It may well do. Unfortunately the poll doesn't say how many would vote to stay in the Union as the "don't know" figures aren't included.
