Ok but isn't that with regard to Irish citizens(only). It doesn't account for Irish citizens who're also EU citizens? It was enacted when Ireland wasn't in the EU and it didn't matter when both were in EU. It might be unworkable if people start getting Irish citizenship to get into the UK? Immigration being 1 of the big reasons for Brexit.

    That's right.

Things were OK when the UK and the ROI both had the same status with respect to the various European entities.

Everyone's worried. Some with good reason. Others unnecessarily so.

It won't change because it doesn't have to.

People were already getting Irish citizenship in order to get into the UK and EU.

Are there any proposals from any quarter to repeal it or amend it?

People from within the EU had an automatic right to go straight to the UK. In future that's not going to be the case. One way one will be able to do so is move to Ireland for 3 yrs get passport and move to the UK. Also, many from outside the EU could use Ireland as a way into the UK. Immigration was a big part of the reason for Brexit.

Yes. I'm aware of this. But as I said people (non EU) were already getting Irish citizenship to get into the UK and EU.

Remember too there are thousands of British citizens living here. The Common Travel Area predates the EU. Neither the British nor the Irish want it gone.
