Default Army Recruitment Question

I was pondering joining the army reserve until I checked out the health requirements and remembered/was reminded by the website you cant join the military if your color blind.

It doesn't say why tho and I can't find the answer on the net.

Is it something to do with spotting camouflage, or wiring explosives wrong or what?

(tried postin in chat but it would not appear)

What part of the country are you in? If your not in the main cities you are not going to be tested by a army medical doctor. When I was in the Reserve the only medical (of sorts) was on entering the annual camps and that was a joke if and when it happened.

You did post in chat, and it appeared twice. (Chat threads are only visible when you look at the chat forum - they're hidden when you select latest discussions)

If you're color blind maybe they would have a question as to nationality and or / alliegance?

I'm in Dublin I'm afraid so I think Dun Laoghaire is the nearest post.

Essentially it comes down to health and safety. Nothing massively exciting like bomb defusion or anything.

Are you actually colour blind though?

Health and safety is so vague tho, my boss at work tells me putting the boxes in one corner instead of the other is a health and safety thing, seems like a vague way of sayin "JUST COS!"

Yeh I am, took the test with the circles and numbers when I was a kid

Right. In that case, chances are you'll be refused.

Anyone know if colour blindness can get better in time?

I'm not a fan of most health and safety practices. For example, if you want to climb a ladder, it has to be tied at the top. How the ******************** are you meant to tie it first?

Colour blindness will stop you being accepted as a recruit. A red/green problem would be bad. Warnings are in red but the background colour can be green, if you can't differentiate between them, the warning is no good. Some safety light systems use the same light location for green and red. There are too many situations in the military where being able to distinguish between colours is vital.

Some colourblind people can see through camouflage much better than normal vision. The colour fragmentation doesn't effect them as much.
