Seems the USSR wasn't that different from the US when it came to race in the 1960's. At least the US was moving in the right direction then.

I think even the most unthinking brain-dead of us know that 'communism' as a concept or ideology is wonderful. But that's all it is - an ideology. Once human beings become involved other factors come in to play. Pride, fallibility, insecurity, megalomania and so on.

Cael, as long as humans are involved communism will never succeed. Capitalism is the least destructive of the ideologies - only millions die through greed. Communism murders in tens of millions, and those dead were never happy.

Thats absolute bollocks. The USSR was far more tolerant of its ethnic minorities than the USA ever was. FFS, Stalin as Commissar for Ethnic Minorities in the 1920s drew up the SSR's/ASSR's/Oblasts and Okrugs to cater for the many different ethnic groups in the USSR. The Jews were given a homeland in the Amur Region (Biorbidzhan) in the 1920s long before Israel came into being. The Jewish Autonomous Oblast is still there and thriving. Even the Volga Germans has their own ASSR. It was payback to many of the nationalities who had supported the Bolsheviks in the Revolution and Civil War. Many prominent non Russians went on to serve in the higher echelons of the Soviet administration, Beria (Georgian), Kaganovich, Zinoviev, Kamenev (Jews) Kruschev (Ukrainian) and Stalin (Georgian) as was Eduard Shevernadze, Haidar Aliyev (Azeri), Dzerzhinsky (Polish) and Alfreds Rubiks (Latvian) who is now an MEP.
How in the name of Moses was the USSR racist. Far from it. t couldnt be, it was made up of so many different nationalities.

Here's a map of the USSR. See how each ethnic group had widespread autonomy. Now compare that to the US.
