| [QUOTE=Sync;2442097]Obviously. Can't disagree with science. A strawpoll of people with nothing better to do with their afternoons than listen to Joe Duffy should be taken seriously. QUOTE] You are, no doubt, referring to the nearly half a million 'wasters' who are milking the dole because they refuse to avail of the jobs boom that our illustrious government and pro-active opposition have earned for us. Like our politicians, you just don't get it, do you? Away in your celtic twilight, light-years from reality. You are the ones who we should stop taking seriously. |

| [QUOTE=The_Big_Fellow;2442134]Holding JOD to account. QUOTE] I wonder about this action, regardless of who was responsible. JOD was a high spender, it is true. But so were many ministers and their departments. Was JOD a safe sacrificial lamb given his position of Ceann Comhairle - a theoretical neutral in Party terms? If WO'D was in the same position now, would he also be a safe target? |

| the comments from FG heads over lee arent about being out of touch. its about damage control and spin to smear lee as a guy who "bottled it", or is a "prima donna that threw his rattle out of his pram/ messianic egotist that couldnt hack it " ALL so they dont have to deal with the truth. that the party system itself is set up for the status quo and NONE of em, FG/FF/LAB, want that cushy crony driven gravy train derailed. the real story in this affair is how the body politic itself is now corrupted as outsiders arent welcome if they have ridiculous notions like actually changing how things are done and rewarding people on the grounds of talent instead of seniority . in fact more than that it screams one very simple question. why the hell would anyone with ability go into politics in this country as it stands? as we can see from a cursory demographic breakdown of the dail, if your not a teacher/barrister/doctor/ publican- you wont. |

| In order to become a TD and not risk one's career, one would have to be in the public sector or self-employed or never had a real job. Eg kenny, lenny, coughlan.

The present incumbents in power want PS/CS to reform, so that longevity, seniority and connections are no longer right to promotion. But we have a system it would appear, where that seems to be a god given right.within Dail Eireann... Ha, Also, G Lee has been castigated for having a job to go back to, but so have a great number of current Dail members- teachers, solicitors, doctors etc. as you say. What gamble did they take in going into the Dail? It is a total farce. I have no party affiliations, but I do admire George Lee for showing us that the Dail is full of staid Civil Servants - yes you know the ones they are all vilifying at the moment. They are the worst kind of mumpties. Do as I say, not as I do. G Lee's exit from the Dail will I hope do something for those who think TDs are running this country. They are not. It is those who die (funerals to attend), those who need help (medical cards, free housing etc.) who perpetuate the vote for them that rule. I really despair of this country now. But have a smidgeon of hope .... I hope. |
