Default Simons is a "mother of five" - why should we care?

'A new voice in politics,' says Simons, but nobody appears to recognise her

Quote:
The first question inside the leaflet is: Who is Caroline?

The answer is: "Caroline is a mother of five children and a solicitor. She and her children were born in the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, and today Caroline is a governor of the hospital."

That is all the information on the leaflet that promotes Caroline personally as being a suitable candidate for election to the European parliament. Elsewhere in the leaflet, she repeats that she is a mother of five.
Can anyone explain why Simons feels the need to repeat this information twice on a leaflet that is otherwise dedicated to attacking her opponents?

P.

The more important question is, how did passers-by resist the temptation to push her into the Liffey?

Perhaps she is proud of her role as a mother.

Every good parent is. But since when did it become the one and only reason to elect someone to public office? Her "Litir Um Toghchan" consisted of 1 positive about her (being a mother) and 6 negatives about her opponents.

We shouldn't but some people do and if the candidate wants to point it out to them then let them.

Maybe she feels a little bit short of personal achievements relevant to the job so she is resorting to listing other significant personal achievements which while not directly relevant may still resonate with those who might employ her. Think of it a being akin to listing reading as an interest when applying for a job in McDonalds, in the hope that the interviewer will enjoy a chat about Lord of the Rings.

Everyone here knows what these lines on her leaflets translates as, and who it is aimed at.

It may as well say: "Five children, no abortions".
