Deputy Creighton [Fine Gael] said that the Oireachtas is the appropriate forum for the debate of matters pertaining to European Affairs.

Quote:
“I called for this action last summer and I am now pleased that the Taoiseach has taken up my suggestion."
I take it then Deputy Creighton that when you and your party are campaigning [again] for a Yes vote on Lisbon you will confine your campaign to the 'appropriate forum for the debate of matters pertaining to European Affairs'

I'm sure she would agree to that, if the No side did.

Since the No campaign people had absolutely no democratic mandate whatsoever, your suggestion would suit the Yes campaign down to the ground

It was Lucinda Creighton who exposed the absolutely criminal waste of money by Maurice Hayes and the Forum on Europe, and the incredible way that their expenditure seemed to grow year-on-year

2007 €2,075,845.11
2006 €1,517,041.49
2005 €1,294,947.05
2004 €942,340.90
2003 €919,537.35

How the hell did a small body with a small staff which has been doing the same work since its inception, manage to DOUBLE its expenditure in just three years???

Maurice Hayes should go to jail for this kind of waste of taxpayers money - as should successive Ministers who authorised the squandermania

It's always possible to find ways to spend money if you look hard enough.

Are the figures for 2008 out yet?

your insults aside you mean the people who turned out to be representative of the country as a whole?

cool.

i dont mind lucy and co , all 95% of the dail, locking themselve in a room and deluding themselves into thinking that theyre representative in this issue simply because someone in dalkey elected em to fix potholes.

it'll make you lot losing AGAIN all the more sweet.

Did the voters not directly elect the Dáil? Perhaps you missed that

For someone called constitutionus you don't seem to understand how the Irish democratic process works? So TDs are elected only to fix potholes and streetlamps?

Could you by any chance show us where in the constitution it says that?

Here:

Forum on Europe Wasted €2 Million in 2007 Alone – Creighton

This figure of 2 million puts the paltry 750k saved on the Ministerial pensions into perspective
