Has anybody recently looked at their family's tree?

Fintan O'Toole and the Friends of the Irish Environment have pointed out on occasion that this was a scam.

I think many families might have the same tree...

How so?

I read his article a few years ago. He had 2 basic points.
First, the trees were planted in grids but weren't individually numbered. Basically, a thousand (or however many) families were assigned to an equal number of trees but not to a specific tree each.
Secondly, the forests are managed like any other and the smaller trees are pruned after a few years so not every family's tree reached full maturity.

Personally, I think his complaints are a bit silly.

Wonder where the "Millenium Clock" ended up....

yeah - Everyone was supposedly allocated a seedling but most of them were thinned out.

The complaint is that it was presented as a fantastic leap forward in irish forestry but the number of trees was a fraction of the target

That's a great shame. One tree for every person I say!

It was one tree for every family rather than for every person and I think that it was perfectly correct to manage the forests like any other. The aim from the start was to plant some native forests and thinning out the weak trees is a part of that.
