| BLESSED UNREST - The immune system of humanity finally kicking in Yes states exist, and while there pressure has to be put on them to sign up to binding deals to cap emissions and really make an effort to reduce carbon PPM (parts per million) down to 350... ![]() In the meantime, many of us, some new to things, some at "activism" since 60's and 70's feel that this is a time like no other, due to comunication tools (like this blog), like the enormity of the problems we are in, but also the new mechanism, or organism that is being created to deal with these processes. Huge part of that is a bottom up grassroots movement that is growing, for some they want to smash the state, grand let them at it, for many, its about simply connecting and building movements, taking action in your own locality, sorting problems locally and continuing in this way. US ecologist Paul Hawken has referred to it as BLESSED UNREST, check out this short vid to get an idea of what hes on about; the immune system of humanity finally kicking in ![]() going back to climate camp, you can now watch the documentary from Irelands first camp, in 2 parts: - Climate Camp: Part I on Vimeo - Climate Camp: Part II on Vimeo Related infos: - Climate Camp: Camp for Social Justice - 'Give Peat a Chance'- Climate Camp Shannonbridge 2009

| Great news this week, showing that awareness is growing, action is being taken, results are being gotten. We have still a massive fight on our hands, but those of influenced by the Tao know that those first steps are the always the hardest: Direct Action gets results; E.ON Shelves Kingsnorth If indeed this is an eco war, then this surely is another great win in the battle for (y)our future Quote:

![]() - Kingsnorth - Heathrow 3rd runway - Hunterston power station FF, it seems to me that something is happening, direct action is part of the process of change. Im glad you too are working for cleaner wiser future, designing the alternative. As its not eneough to simply shut stuff down, we have to build up the alternatives. Thats what i work at too. But the important thing, be it craic or a spiritual shift, or simply becuase its trendy... more and more people are starting to get involved in changing the world. Great. Take a look at what the young people in England were up to yesterday at POWERSHIFT; Quote:
In the US, the coal factory which sits right outside the white house in Washington, was shut down by the US Powershift and related day of action back in early March: ![]() ![]() So back to the initial title of this article. We, the people, are waking up. I leave you with Amy Goodman (yes the alternative nobel prize winner) interviewing those waking up and taking action in the US from Democracy Now:

| Interesting bunch of posts dunk, here, read this.... Bobbie Johnson in San Francisco guardian.co.uk, Sunday 3 May 2009 "In an energy-constrained world, we cannot continue to grow the footprint of the internet … we need to rein in the energy consumption," said Subodh Bapat, vice-president at Sun Microsystems, one of the world's largest manufacturers of web servers. "We need more data centres, we need more servers. Each server burns more watts than the previous generation and each watt costs more," he said. "If you compound all of these trends, you have the perfect storm." "With more than 1.5 billion people online around the world, scientists estimate that the energy footprint of the net is growing by more than 10% each year." "From having a relatively small impact just a few years ago, it is now leapfrogging other sectors like the airline industry that are more widely known for their negative environmental impact." put that in your pipe (smokeless pipe) Last edited by Dillinger; 13th October 2009 at 05:01 PM. |
