This is a discussion on Tales from the canvass within the Elections forums, part of the General Discussion category on Politics.ie. What sort of reception are your euro-election candidate's respective canvassers experiencing on the doorsteps of the plain people of Ireland?...

Euro candidates don't knock at doors. They swan around in buses and hang around shopping centres.

I brought P McKenna around to thousands of doors in 1994 when I ran her campaign in Dunlaoghaire. She did the same in other parts of Dublin.

You will remember she topped the poll.

I've heard from plenty of people that the local election candidates are being mistaken as euro candidates all of the time. Voters seem to be very confused about the whole thing especially in the Dublin constituencies where the by-elections are taking place. The one thing that they don't seem to be confused about is who they are definately not going to vote for!!
