Here's a review that outlines where the authors are coming from:
Education Review. Book reviews in education. School Reform. Accountability. Assessment. Educational Policy.

Judging by the review the authors are grinding an axe.

No, "F*ck off" is the appropriate response to your level of comment. In fact I think you made three points:

F*ck Off.
F*ck Off.
F*ck Off.

I feel like telling him to fupp off too, but he'll just turn it into one of his "why are you so vulgar" whinges.

Most people have missed one of the key points in the archbishop's statements. He said that catholic schools should have a real Catholic ethos. Quite simply, that is not the case in most so-called Catholic schools in this country. Most of them are Catholic in name only. Many of the posters here are, in all probability, products of so-called Catholic education. Yet in almost every case they reveal themselves to be very deficient in their understanding of Catholicism.

What we need is a system with fewer, but truer, Catholic schools.

Let those who truly, truly want a real catholic education have it. I reckon that there is a market for no more than a few dozen of these schools in the entire country. The rest can adopt whatever philosophy they want.

In our current system those who want a genuine Catholic schooling, where the faith is taken seriously have very little choice.

Fewer, but truer, is the way to go.

I agree. I'd much prefer quality over quantity.

There are children coming out of so-called Catholic schools who don't even know the Our Father, let alone the Angelus. I blame the priests, teachers and the parents.

A whole new plan for catechisis needs to be devised. And not like the airy-fairy stuff the last time round.
