Can we close this thread please? Everyone knows that teachers are the most jumped up, self righteous, overpaid and militant bunch of featherbedded clowns in the public sector.

How much more of this crap do we have to endure from them, snivelling and crying about the stress and hard work they have to do for four or five hours a day?

Do yourself a favour - don't click on this topic again. Easy isn't it? That way you won't have to read the postings and they will not bother you anymore.

Do you always become petulant and spoil the fun for others when you no longer want to play the game?

To true mate - Don't forget their are people who would swear they deserve every penny they get - But hell I remember having some seriously poor & lacking teachers. Not all of course.

The educational system needs to be reviewed & altered in some areas.
Example: Proper computer training should be introduced - I'm talkin a little more advanced than knowing how to use word efficiently.
Something such as programing needs to be introduced to secondary level students probably close to 3rd year, why because maths can be explained, used and illustrated in programing. IMO this would help the whole maths situation.
I also believe Irish should be optional after 3rd year - This is no longer our first language and hasn't been for a long time. (I'm aware a piece of paper says it is - but it's not)
I struggled with the Irish language & was even told I had no chance in passing ordinary level Irish. What good is foudation irish in the leaving cert?

anyway I know thats all kinda off topic but said I'd throw it out their.

The usual . I don't have to explain myself to you but since you're so interested EN4744, EN 4734, EN 4714 - and my chosen arts - now happy. List my lecturers ? I will in my ass. Abusing people cos they don't agree with you. happy bozo? I think your pay needs to be reduced - you obviously think you're something else.

I understand if you don’t want to answer. In the past number of years there has been an upsurge in private sector employees going back to study primary education, particularly with the introduction of the Hibernia course. Amongst teachers and lecturers alike a concern emerged that these new students had chosen the career not for love of children or learning but rather a misguided belief that it was a “soft” option. (i.e. they chose teaching because they thought the days were short, the holidays excellent and that little was expected of them by way of actual work.) I’m afraid I see just such a pattern emerging in your observations and to be honest – it troubles me. Teaching is a vocation and no-one should attempt it unless they can see it as such.

As for myself - I don’t need to defend my choice of career - I suggest you read through my previous posts on this and other education-related topics – they speak for themselves. Also take note of where I’ve said I work.

Thankfully, we have now entered a period where the supply of teachers greatly outweighs the demand for them – it ensures that only those who have a genuine commitment to the profession will have their services retained. And I must profess to being hugely relieved at this.

Good luck in finding a job, pray you don’t come across our school’s principal on an interview panel – he’d have your measure in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately they can't get rid of the lazy good for nothings who are out sick constantly or the lazy ones who are there for years. I'd agree with your sentiments otherwise. Of course only the best and should get the job - that's how its supposed to work. Vocation ???!!!! Go away with yourself and do your prep for tomorrow.

That's why I have a job and you............ - well time (and a discerning principal) will tell. There's no question but that teaching IS a vocation but then again you'd have to have experience of it to know that. Just do yourself a favour - stay away from the inner city schools, we have enough problems there without the teacher sceptic off-loading his/her issues. Not to mention - as I said before - you'd be eaten alive.
