It would hardly make sense, given that the DES allows parish priests to sit on BoMs, many of whom would veto the employment of an openly LGBT teacher.

Department of Education and Science (I think) and Board of Management (I'm sure).

thanks cato, now that I understand the post, I'll ask Florin how the parish priest would be aware that a person applying for a job was lgbt? Isn't it illegal to ask?

Schools are allowed to discriminate against persons whose 'lifestyles' would contradict the ethos of the school.

Big deal. Homosexuals will get laughed at as will people with big teeth, funny shaped heads, braces on their teeth and those who are good at school. Get over it. Tell them not to tell anyone they are gay and no one will know. That is what I would do. People with physical features that are odd don't have that luxury.

That's a council of despair. Surely something should be done to counteract all bullying rather than just accepting it as a 'fact of life'. Bullying has a terrible effect on people and everything possible should be done to stamp it out. Homosexuals should not have to hide who and what they are simply because of the fear of bullying.

Please feel free to point out the post that stated or even implied that. I doubt you can.
