have to admit i didnt see the cut in duty on alcohol coming but it makes sense seeing its what everyone going over the border is buying .

any word on the fags?

25% of the countrys addicted to em and its more profitible for smugglers to bring em in now than cocaine hence the massive hauls recently caught by customs.

i can see a cut in that coming down the line.

i have to laugh at how quickly the whole health angle on them went out the window when it came down to the country being broke.

from what i can see the only way im gonna be hit by this budget is the carbon tax, but its still early yet.

What I don't get, and I am pretty ignorant in the domain of the economy (but then so are the people running it), well what I don't get is why Lenihan said in his RTE interview last night that this would be the last of the tough budgets. Do we not have to make similar cuts next year? Can anyone expound on this?

I'm fairly sure it's untrue, so I conclude that either

a) The Minister doesn't expect he'll be the Minister for the next budget (either Taoiseach or in opposition)

or

b) He'll be able to blame the next one on the ECB/IMF etc.

How Lenihan could make our woes dissappear, but will he???

Coming into work this morning listening to Tom Dunne on the radio and he had a guy on from Boyle Sports with budget specials.

Lenihan was 11/10 to wear a black tie and 33/1 to wear a white one. All he needs is for someone to go to Boyle sports put a nifty 500m on him wearing a White Tie and boom, we are 16.5b better off. In your face bankers and developers...

The length of the speech was also a tasty 8/1 to be less than 45 mins, HELLO, all he needs to do here is a handy 1b on this finishes after half an hour and scarpers to his nearest bookie to collect the 8b in winnings. FU Sepp Blatter this makes us all happy again...

We are sorted, no budget cuts or anything. happy days

Well the hope is that the economy will begin recovering next year- if we start getting growth then revenues should start picking up abit.

Your right next year will be tough too but because this year the economy has seen no growth, the cuts will be felt more.

What makes the government so certain that publicans will pass the cut in alcohol excise onto customers?

that was my first thoughts too but i presume its very easy for him to reverse the measure if its not passed on.

that and half of FFs backbenchers are publicans

across the parties the VFI make up either alot of TDs or house their clinics .

harney for instance used to work out of the lord lucan (yes, the jedward one )
