A really stupid post. Watching the pictures of the President laying a wreath at Arbour Hill you'd wonder with the likes of some on here why Pearce and the rest bothered.

Well before we joined the EEC, Ireland was Britains backgarden- we were completely dependent on Britian now is that what the men of 1916 had in mind?

They'd wonder themselves if they saw what the likes of Haughey, Aherne, Burke, Lawlor, Lenihan, etc got up to.

So you'd had over the running of our country to Brussels. At least you are being honest unlike the other eurofanatics on p.ie who insist the EU is bastion of democracy where we are listened to respectfully and our views taken into account and decisions are made for all.

As opposed to post Lisbon (IF it passes) when we will be even less independent.

Basically there are two games available in Europe, be part of the UK sphere of influence or be part of the EU sphere of influence. There is no mystical independent third way where we are free from all outside influences.
Seeing as 36 years of the EU's influence on us has been a bit more positive than 800 odd years of the UK's, I think I'll stick with the EU!

Frugal comfort, comely maidens, athletic youth, mass emigration, TB, Magdalene laundries...
