Chavez's Government Seizes Irish Company's Land - General * Europe * News * Story - CNBC.com
President Hugo Chavez said Thursday that his government has seized land owned by an Irish cardboard maker as part of a sweeping agrarian reform initiative.

The government took control of 3,700 acres (1,500 hectares) owned by the Dublin-based Smurfit Kappa Group because they were being used to grow eucalyptus, a cardboard component, rather than food in violation of Venezuelan law, Chavez said during a televised speech.

if you dont like the government in venezuela the populace can actually have it recalled by referendum mid term , thanks to Uncle Hugos democratic constitutional reforms . Furthermore they dont give away their national resources to rich foreigners tax and royalty free either . One hint of corruption and your banned from political office . Unlike Ireland which put Liam Lawlor in an ovrsight position on a political ethics committee .

Or hint of disloyalty. Or hint of anything. All without due process or a shred of accountability or oversight. Our system may be far from perfect, but at least its not arbitrary.

The kind of fella who would appoint government loyalists to key ministries and state induistries, and use state coffers to buy off unions and offer state protection to those best able to keep voting for him and his party. Been there, Bertie Ahern.
