RTÉ News: Growing concerns over future of SR Technics

Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:03
Fears are growing for the future of aircraft maintenance firm SR Technics, formerly Team Aer Lingus, which employs more 1,200 people at Dublin Airport.

RTÉ News has learned that the company's Chief Executive Bernt Kessler, who is based at the company's headquarters in Switzerland, held a meeting with Tánaiste Mary Coughlan today to discuss the company's difficulties.

Management will meet union representatives at 8.30am tomorrow morning, and workers will be addressed at around 9.30am.

For some time, there has been concern about the financial situation at the firm.

The company recently lost a number of key contracts, including three maintenance contracts for its former owner Aer Lingus.

It is understood that the company representatives outlined the serious and difficult market situation facing the company at today's meeting.

One union source has said that when you are invited to a meeting like that, it usually involves a 'serious announcement of some magnitude'.
