Alternative Migration Destinations I am currently resident in Pakistan. In the past couple of weeks, 2 people have contacted me to enquire about work opportunities here. I also met a finance graduate who can't find work in the US and has moved here to be with her sister and look for work.
I was thinking of leaving, since I don't really enjoy my job so much here and in terms of career progression staying in my current position is not the best idea.
That said, I earn decent cash and have a job here for probably another year or 2.
Since the usual safety valves, the UK and the US, and possibly Australia, may not be an option, are people at home thinking of alternative destinations for emigration?
I spoke to a guy when i was home for Christmas. He's about to graduate, but he doesn't expect to find work in the immediate future. He's planning on taking off back-packing around the world.
I think now is a good time for people who don't have too many ties at home to consider some radical options.
If you have savings of a few tens of thousands of dollars, there are places you could easily relocate to without working for a number of years and ride out the storm. Rent a hut in the jungle somewhere.
South East Asia is a good option.
I would recommend that people who are in a position to consider moving somewhere "different" give it some serious thought.
I am planning to move about for the next few years in less developed countries, picking up work where I can and living cheaply. |
