Where I work you need doctors cert after 2 days but I can think of very few situations this was used. After 7 uncertified days the remainder are unpaid and only 1 person using that because of drink related sickies. I think in large bureaucracies sickies are more likely. There is nothing worse than seeing someone clearly abuse the system with sickies to kill staff morale. Good management has to be seen to act.

I agree any business that is not able to compete should get out,it is pure falsehood saying they are not able to pay the minimum wage, what will they want next people to work voluntary for them |

| Yeah yeah we should all be doing alot more work for a lot less pay with a lot less time off. And in whose interest is that? Certainly not the majority of people in Ireland and around the world (who work for a wage). And by the way there is no statutory requirement to provide sick pay in Ireland. |

| Doctor's cert process: Employee: Doc, I'm sick. Doctor. Ok, what's wrong. Employee: Bit of a cold/headache/whatever you're having. Doctor: How long do you need? Employee: just to tomorrow Doc. Doctor: Here's your note. Pay EUR XX before you leave. Employee: Grand job Doc. Thanks.

| Germans often get a thirteenth month's pay for Christmas-Weihnachtsgeld, and extra money for the holidays-Urlaubsgeld. Those with good employers also get one week's paid work related training or personal development for every two years worked, ie. you can go and do some course and get paid for it. Additionally, employers often pay for a 'Kururlaub' a trip to a spa to unwind for a week. These used to be widespread benefits but are becomming less frequent these days. I'm not sure what the situation in France is like but I do know they get long holidays, and rightly so in my opinion. |
