Default Jail workers while bankers go free. Justice, Ireland style?

Workers staging a sit-in at the Thomas Cook office on Grafton Street have been given until 7pm this evening to vacate the premises and comply with a final court order...

Mr Justice Peart said if staff did not comply with the final court order he would hear an application for attachment of committal at 11am tomorrow.

So bankers and golden circles given dodgy loans to prop up share prices get to play golf and have nice holdays. Ministers get free helicopter rides, and $400 hair dos at taxpayers expense.

But workers protesting to protect their jobs can be jailed.

When will enough be enough in this country?

What a disgrace, is it possible to stamp harder on the working people of this country. I really cannot believe this.

The justice system does not give a damn about ordinary workers. When the judiciary know and maybe related to some property developers and bankers they do nothing.

Justice Ireland style as you said, stand up for your rights get trampled on, bankrupt the country, get a pat on your back.

The moral of the story is... don't be one of the little people. Everyone should be familiar with this truth anyway so stop feigning indignation.

It is the way works and always will work.

The moral of the story is, rather, that it is in your interest to obey a lawful order of the High Court.

Thomas Cook, for good or evil, are paying more than the statutory minimum. Thats the law. You cannot just occupy another's property because you don't like it.

I am am not one of the little people, as you put it. But I am a disgusted citizen of this country. People like you will always try to keep the workers down.

People here have a massive sense of entitlement. The country is on its kness. Yet we have sit ins looking for yet more handouts. Inevitably Irish reputation will suffer still further. Who would invest here with this carry on?

They are being offered 5 weeks pay for every year worked. It doesnt seem that bad in fairness.

If you were on 500 per week and you worked there ten years you woud be getting €25,000.

And, I think, that the statutory minimum is two weeks which they were quite entitled to offer.

I don't disagree, but you'll have noticed I didn't say they shouldn't obey the court order.

I'm not familiar with the details of the redunancy, merely contrasting the treatment of workers using (rightly or wrongly) the only leverage left available to them, with the treatment of Politicians, FAS directors, Financial Regulators and Bankers who've been exposed in wrongdoing.

That seems to depend. Apparently you can sometimes, and if you're Noel O'Gara the Guards won't even intervene, saying instead that its a civil matter.
