Gerry Ryan gets tax-free status for his biography

Feck the 10%, I'll clean up with me book!

Quote:
RTÉ BROADCASTER Gerry Ryan has been granted tax-free status under the artists’ exemption scheme by the Revenue Commissioners for earnings from his biography.
Quote:
Penguin Books paid an estimated €100,000 advance for the broadcaster’s revelations about his experiences during nearly 30 years behind the microphone.

Recent reports indicated that sales of the book have been well below target.
At least that's something!

Well, until they git rid of the exemption, all writers of such books will get the exemption. I didin't know that moron had written one. At least the poor sales show him up for the over paid idiot he is.

Didn't that pompous ************************* conor cruise o'brien consider his writings to be creative and therefore obviated the need to be a little person and tax on the earnings? CJH's artist exemption is one of his greatest legacies (after saving the state in 87, the ifsc, the succession act, bus pass for elderly), but Cowen rightly put a cap on it. That probably won't concern Ryan's creative writing.

Didn't CJH have to be brought kicking and screaming to the IFSC? Never thought that should have been attributed to his legacy despite what the FF browne nosers say.

Whats the betting old porky is being lined to up take over from Pat Kenny? His recent penchant for wearing and tie, his outing on Ryan Confidential (another waste licence payers cash) and now Kennys annoucement seems to be leading that way.

After the big lie about him being an "author" anything's possible. They'll be telling us he's an "entertainer" next.

This dumb tax loophole has to be shut and shut fast.

Everyone must pay tax on their earnings and only scumbags try to avoid paying taxes with tax loopholes and some who benefit from writing a book are scumbags.

Expect Bertie's bio if it ever comes out to benefit from the same tax loophole, it's a disgrace and a sham.

How many of the people writing these books are telling us to tighten our belts and pay more tax?

And where does 'creativity' begin and end. Someone who writes a history book for example, are they creative? Likewise someone who writes an auto-biography.

What about someone who writes software code, surely they are more creative than people like Gerry Ryan.

This loophole was intended to help genuine artists, although there are very few such people around today.

It's time even artists paid tax.

If they earn less than 20,000 a year they should be tax exempt, any more they should pay like the rest of us.

wtf?

you don't get it...

I said clearly that if a politician for example decides to make an easy 100,000 tax free, they write a book. Where does it end? Are lecture tours also an artistic endeavour.

Gerry Ryan's book will not add one ounce of artisic creativity to this country. James Joyce he is not.

The loophole needs closing because it's being abused.

I didn't say all book writers are scumbags, only those who put their name on the front of a probably ghost written book and benefit from tax examptions.
